In casual conversations a well established engineer answered a question, and said that there was only one agreed upon definition of a battery and that by this authority, a battery could not include organic material. This compelled the question: Are you sure? After some experimenting it was found that by dissolving the protein found in hair with a strong alkaline solution, current was generated and could be sustained for a period of time. This fit the definition of battery, however absurd it may be!
