The Listening Apparatus of We

There is value in the quiet voices amidst the deluge of over-verve, over-voice and shiny surfaces. This is not to dismiss the presence of an outward appearing strength and beauty, as it provides its own kind of reinforcement and encouragement. But there is a place for both. There is a field of energetics, of information, that comes through the quieter noticing of those we may not see because their presence has no hard surface or their voice exhibits no easily recognizable confidence. But it is in this state of apparent weakness of body that the strongest insights appear, because often, when we are weak of body we are able to listen more carefully without our mind directing us towards what has value. The world opens more fully to us, to the listener in this state, and we may not be able to tell that we have become valuable carriers of information to another.

In earlier times and other cultures, the elderly or affirmed were approached with respect and care because it was known they often became carriers of information that the young or strong could not access. We have heard these stories and often assume this means they can tell us about their long life history. But I think this might be a mistaken interpretation. I think instead it means that the elderly or affirmed are able to do what James Redfield often calls “downloading” information, from non-local sources. We have no adequate language to simply describe this source of information. But science has begun to agree the universe is a vast information field that is available to us; something ancient cultures knew over two thousand years ago. The difficulty appears to be that we have trouble connecting to it because our desires and shiny surfaces are too loud for us to hear what is subtle. But those who have entered into the quieter fields of life, seem to naturally be able to translate for us. And it is listening to such “texts” where we can find undiscovered information.
