A clip from the film, Behind the Sun, (2001). One of the most beautiful films I have seen. It describes the practice of Blood Feuds which are still practiced today in some countries. These are usually between quarreling families, where they feel in order to save the honor of the family, one must kill one son of the opposing family, to right a wrong. In this clip, the boy seen has only until the next full moon before he will be hunted and killed. He accepts his fate. But he attempts to engage in the beauty of life.
I could not help but see this practice as a diagram of blood-shedding and the disruption of innocent lives by groups that are not familial but corporate and government. All the elements in the ancient practice of Blood Feuds are present in the actions taken by any modern group today who engages in harm to others. Look carefully. There is no difference. My own government and others are engaged in the practice of Blood Feuds when they feel their “honor” has been compromised. And those whose lives they interrupt, with drones or surveillance, with violence in war or violence to induce fear for population control, it is the same as in a Blood Feud. The opposite of humanity can be seen in this clip; the choice to fully engage in relation with another and the material world around you; in joy, rather than the disruption of lives or honor killing. It is a choice any individual can make. They only have to remember that part of their humanity.
