Blowing on a dandelion.

Most of the things we recognize as smart, (people, ideas, objects, cultural shifts, etc.), make it into a notebook, or live fleetingly in a conversation. I read something today which changed my mind:

"You could set it up so that no one party at the negotiating table actually has a record of what happened. Only by cooperation of multiple parties is the record of what happened there reconstructable. Because the way the space works is that it automatically divides all of the stream data up amongst the avatars and gives it to them in a shared secret structure. So without the cooperation of avatars you don’t have a reconstructable event."
–Eben Moglen, the founder, Director-Counsel and Chairman of the Software Freedom Law Center, talking about social, technological and legal questions of building 3D immersive online spaces.

I am not sure if the significance of this paragraph is as profoundly meaningful to anyone else; but I find it effervescent. It contains seeds of an idea that are deeply needed, and will be implemented. It makes me incredibly happy that this bit of smart bubbled up today. It is a pretty common occurrence to run across such pieces of another’s mind in this community writing space in which we all participate. I have decided that I want to create a space to gather those that I encounter and place them here.  It is a new year.
